Cesar Chavez Day Celebration at Dover Park Community Garden

More than 300 people showed up to celebrate and honor activist Cesar Chavez.  The celebration included a variety of speakers, dance and music performances, healthy food demonstrations and samples, fruit tree planting, and mural painting.

The speakers included:

• Anthony Chavez (grandson of Cesar)
• MC Claudia Heron
• Bert Lubin (Children’s Hospital CEO)
• Mayor Jean Quan

Performers included:

• Aztec Dance Ceremony by Danza Azteca Cuauhtonal
• Brown BFLO (funk hip-hop musicians)
• Jim Barnard (poetry reading)
• Penina Ava Taesali (poetry reading)
• Oscar Bermeo (poetry reading)
• Claudia Heron (poetry reading)

Food was generously donated by:

• Kids Cooking For Life
• Mari Suzuki

The mural project was artfully lead by members of Community Rejuvenation Project
